Belgium top the bookies defensive rankings with a 56% chance of keeping a clean sheet ahead of their home clash with Iceland. Roberto Martinez’s men beat their opponents 3-0 back in September, whilst the Icelanders have only scored once in 3 Nations League games so far, and will be without the services of talisman Gylfi Sigurdsson. Thomas Meunier always stands out due to his attacking threat – he has scored 4 goals and produced 6 assists for club and country this season – so the PSG right-back, who is well worth his premium price, makes our starting XI.

Norway (41%), who have registered 4 shutouts in their last 5 outings, rank second when they travel to Slovenia, who they beat 1-0 last month. We recommend opting for Omar Elabdellaoui on Friday evening, who has notched 2 assists and 5 bonus points in his last 4 games for the national side.

Italy and Austria (both 39%) round off the top 4 defensive prospects for Gameweek 3. The pair host Portugal and Bosnia respectively, and will be looking to avenge 1-0 defeats from the reverse fixtures. The Italians haven’t conceded more than a single goal in any of their last 5 (although they have only kept 1 clean sheet in that run), whilst the Austrians have recorded 2 shutouts in succession in front of their own fans. Fiorentina’s Cristiano Biraghi scored the winner when Italy beat Poland 1-0 last time out to return a 15 point haul, whilst Heinz Lindner offers a safe pair of hands between the sticks and a secure route into the Austrian defence. Both men start for our side this gameweek.

With Romelu Lukaku an injury doubt (and in very poor form), Eden Hazard headlines our attack, and captains our side, with a 49% chance of scoring against Iceland on Thursday evening. The Chelsea star was on target against the same opposition back in September, and with the Icelanders conceding a whopping 13 goals in 4 games since the World Cup, he’ll surely fancy his chances of bagging again.

We double up on the Belgian attack with the selection of Dries Mertens (40%). The Napoli hitman has been in sparkling form since the last international break, scoring 6 goals and providing 3 assists in 6 appearances for his club.

Up top, another in-form Serie A star makes our starting XI. Ciro Immobile (40%) has hit 3 goals and laid on another 5 for his teammates (6 games) since his last outing for Italy. Opponents Portugal have only kept 1 clean sheet in their last 6 matches, being breached by both Scotland and Poland in their most recent road trips.

Premier League duo Marko Arnautovic (38%) and Cenk Tosun (32%) complete our strike force. West Ham’s star attraction will need to be at his best to triumph over a mean Bosnian defence who haven’t conceded in their last 3 games, although the Austrian has managed to score 4 in his last 8 outings for club and country. Tosun, meanwhile, has been consigned to the bench of late at Everton, and will be hoping that a meeting with Sweden, who the Turks triumphed over 3-2 in the reverse fixture (with Tosun providing an assist), can help him find his shooting boots once again.

A pair of mid-priced midfielders round off our starting XI for Gameweek 3: Memphis Depay (30%) and Cengiz Under (27%). Since the last round of international fixtures, Depay has been in red-hot form for Lyon, bagging 5 goals and providing 3 assists in 6 games, so he’s sure to be confident, something he’ll need when he tackles World Champions France on Friday evening. Under’s selection, meanwhile, means we double up on the Turkish attack ahead of their hosting of Sweden. The Roma starlet is continuing to impress for his club, with 2 goals and an assist in the Champions League proving he can perform on the biggest stages.
