Another weekend, another intriguing gameweek in FantasyBet’s Championship Fantasy. Let’s take a look at the talking points and league leaders after Gameweek 15.
Brentford V Huddersfield
The top two teams in the form table met at Griffin Park on Saturday as Brentford took on a rejuvenated Huddersfield under the Cowley Brothers.
It was also the clash of two of the in form players in 10-goal Ollie Watkins (£9.5) and 8-goal Karlan Grant (£10.5).
Town registered just 4 shots all game, the lowest of any team over the weekend, but Grant’s 62nd minute goal was enough for The Terriers to move to 7 unbeaten, with 15 points out of a possible 21 and 4 clean sheets in the last 6.
They travel to Preston on Saturday, while the Bees travel to Wigan.
Barnsley v Bristol City
Bristol City were looking to go joint top of the Championship on Friday evening as they travelled to bottom of the table Barnsley.
They went 2-0 up after 71 minutes thanks to goals from Ashley Williams (£5.0) and Andreas Weimann (£8.5), his 6th of the season, but a spirited Barnsley side pulled on back 6 minutes later through Aapo Halme (£4.5) and Cauley Woodrow (£8.5) netted his 6th of the season deep into injury time.
It was the home side who created more chances, with Bristol facing 24, and at the other end Bristol had only 9 shots.
Managerless Barnsley face Stoke on Saturday, while Bristol City travel to Cardiff on Sunday.
Is Time Running Out For Scott Parker?
Fulham were hammered 3-0 at home by Hull City to place pressure on manager Scott Parker, with a section of fans growing increasingly frustrated by the performances this season.
They held 75% possession but only had 8 shots – just one of those was actually on target. Hull, on the other hand, had 10 shots, 5 of which were on target and 3 of which found the back of the net. Jarrod Bowen (£11.5) netted his 9th of the season.
Fulham now sit 8th in the league. They travel to Birmingham on Saturday.
Is Time Also Running Out For Jonathan Woodgate?
Another manager under fire is Middlesbrough’s Jonathan Woodgate after a 2-0 defeat to Derby, with Tom Lawrence (£8.0) scoring both goals. They have now lost and drawn 3 each in their last 6 games to slip inside the relegation zone.
They registered just 1 shot on target from 10 chances, and faced 23 from Derby, with 10 on target.
To heap more pressure on Woodgate, midfielder George Saville (£7.0) was shown a straight red in the 32nd minute for a challenge on Krystian Bielik (£4.5).
Boro travel to QPR on Saturday.
Stoke v West Brom
A huge game in Monday evening’s fixture as bottom of the table Stoke entertained West Brom, knowing a win would take them back to the top of the league table.
Slaven Bilic’s men went 1-0 up inside 8 minutes thanks to a goal from Matt Phillips (£4.5) for his 6th of the season. A penalty from substitute Hal Robson-Kanu (£5.5) settled matters to keep managerless Stoke rooted to the bottom of the table.
Meanwhile West Brom move 2 points clear of second place Preston with an away trip to Hull on Saturday.
It was an unfortunate weekend for injuries as Championship Fantasy’s top points scorer Daniel Johnson (£7.5) left the field on the half hour mark with an injury. Joining him on the treatment table is Fulham’s defender Joe Bryan (£6.5) who lasted just 6 minutes.
Managers will have to await the press conferences ahead of Gameweek 16 for an update on the pair, but it is a big call on whether to keep hold of them or transfer them out.
Swansea’s trio Borja Gonzalez Tomas (£7.0), Joe Rodon (£4.5) and Connor Roberts (£5.5) have been handed their final chances by many a manager. Instead it is Preston pair Thomas Barkuizen (£6.5) and Sean Maguire (£8.0) and Millwall’s Jed Wallce (£7.0) who are being widely drafted in.
Anthonystaddon leads Division 1 by 5 points after his 65 point gameweek. All four of his defensive assets attained clean sheets with Matt Phillips (£8.0) and Grady Diangana (£4.5) from WBA gaining a combined 21 point haul.
Karlan Grant was in the goals up front but his captain, Mitrovic (£12.5), blanked. Ollie Watkins also failed to add to Anthonystaddon’s tally.
In Division 2, injury expert Ben Dinnery’s thebiggdinn is at top spot thanks to a double-digit week from Diangana and Leeds’ Jack Harrison (£7.5).
Ncrompton8 leads Division 3 thanks also to clean sheets for all 4 defensive assets and Jarrod Bowen and Diangana’s double-digit hauls.
Lastly, in Division 4, Thedart plumped for a differential captaincy in Derby’s Jayden Bogle (£5.5), who scored 22 points to put them top of the league.
Gameweek 16 kicks off at the City Ground on Saturday as Nottingham Forest face Derby County.
