Standout Statistics From Fantasy Premier League GW10

Our weekly standout stats article is a pocket-sized statistical bible of everything eyebrow-raising that happened in the previous gameweek. For starters, we’ll shine the spotlight over everyone who over and underperformed their underlying stats. Our eagle-eyed analyst also keeps an eye on player heatmaps, searching for any assets who might be drifting out of their FPL position.

As with most of the content posted on our blog, the aim is to find FPL’s hidden gems. If you read nothing else ahead of next gameweek, read this.

(by the way, the xG Delta stat is the difference between actual goals and expected goals (xG). A high minus figure indicates underachievement and a high plus figure indicates overachievement. Cool.)

GAMEWEEK 10 OVERACHIEVERS AND UNDERACHIEVERS

xG OVERACHIEVERS

Christian Pulisic (+2.57)
Ayoze Perez (+2.02)
Jamie Vardy (+1.02)

xG UNDERACHIEVERS

Ashley Barnes (-1.75)
Anthony Martial (-1.34)
Gabriel Jesus ( -1.03)

TEAM UNDER/OVERACHIEVERS

Gameweek 10 was largely a story of team overachievement. This is mainly thanks to Leicester (special thanks to Southampton) who, having matched the all-time Premier League win record and beaten the all-time away win record, have also claimed the prestigious title of the ‘FantasyBet biggest xG overachievement of the season so far award’ as their own.

Their incredible 9 goals came from an xG of 4.38, therefore supposedly overachieving by 4.62 and scoring more than double their xG. However, it was a remarkable game consisting of astonishing attacking football and astonishingly awful defending that will go down in English football folklore. Perhaps it shouldn’t be bogged down by xG.

Having clearly enjoyed the Friday night action, Chelsea and Christian Pulisic specifically fancied a go at this overachievement business. Their opponents (Burnley) respected the power that is xG, scoring 2 goals from a 2.23 xG. However, Chelsea had other ideas and scored 4, making a mockery of their significantly inferior xG of 0.99.

The underachievers of the week were Wolves. They trumped Newcastle’s xG 1.93 to 0.60, yet were forced to settle for a draw away at St. James’ Park.
