Our weekly standout stats article is a pocket-sized statistical bible of everything eyebrow-raising that happened in the previous gameweek. For starters, we’ll shine the spotlight over everyone who over and underperformed their underlying stats. Our eagle-eyed analyst also keeps an eye on player heatmaps, searching for any assets who might be drifting out of their FPL position.
As with most of the content posted on our blog, the aim is to find FPL’s hidden gems. If you read nothing else ahead of next gameweek, read this.
(by the way, the xG Delta stat is the difference between actual goals and expected goals (xG). A high minus figure indicates underachievement and a high plus figure indicates overachievement. Cool.)
GAMEWEEK 25 OVERACHIEVERS AND UNDERACHIEVERS
Robert Snodgrass (+1.86)
Antonio Rudiger (+1.51)
Yerry Mina (+0.96)
Ilkay Gundogan (-1.34)
Roberto Firmino (-1.19)
Sergio Aguero (-1.00)
The standout xG headline from GW25 belongs to Manchester City. Guardiola’s side lost 2-0 away at Mourinho’s Spurs despite registering an xG of 3.23 compared to the home sides’ 0.42. Therefore a 2-0 loss is quite an extraordinary result in terms of underperforming xG figures.
Norwich also leave GW25 disappointed having drawn 0-0 at St. James’ Park with Newcastle despite trumping their xG 2.40 to 0.93. The xG gods certainly did not call a 0-0 result for that one.
