England will have to likely continue playing with a depleted squad because of the coronavirus scare that has hit their team ahead of the ODI series. With the hosts scheduled to play three ODIs and T20Is each against Pakistan, the COVID scare will likely peg them back a little.
While England were forced to add many uncapped players to the squad, Pakistan went with a full squad ahead of the World T20 in October-November in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Oman. This series will give the visitors a good idea about their team and the changes required.
The third ODI is set to be played at Old Trafford, Manchester and it could be a low-scoring affair with the average first innings score being 151 and the second innings is 127 in T20Is. Remember that both the teams have a strong batting lineup, and the winner would depend on the stability of the opening batsmen.
Pakistan may benefit from the same because of more experience and spin bowlers in the line-up, who could come in handy in low-scoring affairs. The visitors will largely depend on captain Babar Azam and in-form Mohammad Rizwan to deliver for them against an English side, which could be a fairly new one.
England, on the other hand, would be hoping to get some of their regular stars back. If not, Ben Stokes and Dawid Malan will have huge responsibilities on their shoulders to put up a fight and beat a fairly settled Pakistan side.
Revised England ODI squad: Ben Stokes (C), Jake Ball, Danny Briggs, Brydon Carse, Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Lewis Gregory, Tom Helm, Will Jacks, Dan Lawrence, Saqib Mahmood, Dawid Malan, Craig Overton, Matt Parkinson, David Payne, Phil Salt, John Simpson, James Vince
Pakistan T20I squad: Babar Azam (C), Shadab Khan, Arshad Iqbal, Azam Khan Faheem Ashraf, Fakhar Zaman, Haider Ali, Haris Rauf, Hasan Ali, Imad Wasim, Mohammad Hafeez, Mohammad Hasnain, Mohammad Nawaz, Mohammad Rizwan (WK), Mohammad Wasim Jnr, Sarfaraz Ahmed (WK), Shaheen Shah Afridi, Sharjeel Khan, Usman Qadir
Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan and Dawid Malan are the best choices for top scorers in the match as they are experienced T20 players and they will have the responsibility to lead their team with the bat.
Ben Stokes remains a fantastic choice for his all-round abilities. Stokes is also someone who does well under pressure and it can gain people betting on him immensely.
From the bowling point of view. Shaheen Afridi, Hasan Ali, Imad Wasim look like the safest picks considering the inexperienced players England might have to field because of the coronavirus problems.
Stokes, Rizwan and Fakhar Zaman can be good bets for most sixes hit.
