On Tuesday, England all-rounder, Sam Curran was ruled out of the remainder IPL 2021 and the forthcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup with a lower back injury. The 23-year old ran into trouble after his match with the Royals on Saturday and was immediately taken for scans to reveal an injury. He’ll fly back in order to meet with the ECB’s medical team, who will provide a full review of their findings soon enough!
“He [Sam Curran] will fly back to the UK in the next couple of days and will have further scans and a full review later this week from the ECB’s medical team,” the ECB’s release stated.
Curran is representing Chennai Super Kings in the IPL 2021. The franchise has already announced his unavailability for the remainder of this season on their official Twitter page.
Curran made his second appearance of the season against Rajasthan Royals and took seven wickets in a single match. Overall this year, he’s picked up 9 wickets at an economy rate of 9.93 and scored 56 runs from 4 innings played so far!
Sam Curran is in for a tough time. His brother, Tom, has just been drafted into England’s T20 World Cup squad and Surrey’s Reece Topley has also been added as one of their travelling reserves – he’ll join them eventually!
In the second leg of IPL, Tom is yet to feature. He did pick up 10 wickets in eight matches for Oval Invincibles though so it looks like he will be key if we want stay unbeaten at home this season!
The England team that are currently participating in the phase 2 of IPL 2021 will link-up with their World Cup squad in the United Arab Emirates. The non-IPL members and support staff arrived earlier on Tuesday, in Muscat for a short camp.
