On Tuesday, Delhi Capitals skipper Rishabh Pant overtook Virender Sehwag to become the team’s leading run-scorer in the history of IPL. He achieved his feat during an exciting match against KKR at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium in UAE.
Taking to Twitter, DC wrote:
“Moment hai bhai, moment hai @RishabhPant17 is now Delhi Capitals’ all-time leading run-scorer #YehHaiNayiDilli #IPL2021 #KKRvDC.”
After winning the toss, Eoin Morgan-led Kolkata Knight Riders chose to bowl first against Delhi Capitals. The bowlers repaid the skipper’s faith as they kept picking up wickets of DC at regular intervals, eventually disrupting DC’s batting line-up. But Pant was able to break through for a 36-ball 39 before being run out!
Venkatesh Iyer, Sunil Narine and Lockie Ferguson starred with the ball for KKR as the team confined DC to 127/9 in their 20 overs.
Skipper Rishabh Pant had mentioned at the toss that he was considering to bat first if he won the toss.
“We were looking to bat first. 150-160 should be good, since the wicket looks slow. We are looking to take one match at a time, and hope we can win the game and qualify for the playoffs for sure. Prithvi is injured and Steve Smith comes in, that’s the only change,” he said.
The Delhi Capitals are currently at the second spot within the IPL points table while KKR sits at fourth with a gross of 8 points from 10 games. The KKR team had suffered a defeat in their last match against CSK while DC won their game against Rajasthan Royals, making them more competitive in this season so far.
The Delhi Capitals have been one win away from clinching their spot in the play-offs for three seasons now. If they can continue this trend, it will be coach Ricky Ponting’s third straight year with his team reaching at least semifinals and potentially finals too!
