IPL 2021 new player list: Full list of new players (history) who will play first time in IPL

The Indian Premier League this year has had a stop-start season and after a flying few weeks, it was stopped in its tracks because of the rising coronavirus cases in India on May 4. The tournament was suspended after players started testing positive from different franchises.

However, after further inspection and meetings, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided that the tournament will resume again on September 19 till October 15 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) like the 2020 edition. A total of 31 matches needs to be played in 27 days and the teams.

With the season half completed, we already got to see some new players in this season’s IPL. Some went for huge sums in the auction while some were relatively cheap. Here are some of the notable first time players who have been bought in the auction and played for the first time in this year’s IPL.

Kyle Jamieson (INR 15 crore)

Kyle Jamieson was one of the big-money names to play this year’s tournament following his acquisition by Royal Challengers Bangalore. Jamieson’s all-round ability and performances against India during their tour of New Zealand caught the attention of a lot of teams.

Jamieson has underperformed according to his price tag. In 7 games, he has taken 9 wickets and scored 59 runs with the bat.

Jhye Richardson (INR 14 crore)

Punjab Kings bought Jhye Richardson for a whopping INR 14 crore in the IPL 2021 auction in February. However, the Aussie pacer didn’t set the stage on fire as he struggled to get wickets and leave a mark.

In 3 games so far, he picked up 3 wickets.

Riley Meredith (INR 8 crore)

Riley Meredith was another big-name Australian signing from PK. Meredith made his name with some fiery bowling for the Hobart Hurricanes in the Big Bash League but failed to replicate that in India.

Meredith played 5 games and took 4 wickets.

Shahrukh Khan (INR 5.25 crore)

Shahrukh Khan garnered a lot of attention for his big-hitting abilities and finishing capabilities in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. He was bought by PK for big money again but he didn’t set the world on fire barring flashes here and there.

He scored 107 runs from 8 matches.

Dawid Malan (INR 1.5 crore)

The World No.1 T20 batter was sold at his base price to PK but didn’t get as many chances to show his worth to the side despite being an important player for his national team.

The Englishman only played 1 match and scored 26 runs.

Chetan Sakariya (INR 1.2 crore)

Chetan Sakariya has been one of the finds of this year’s IPL and has been fantastic for Rajasthan Royals this year. The left-arm pacer has bowled his heart out following a big break.

Sakariya played 7 games and picked up 7 wickets.

Fabian Allen (INR 75 lakh)

Fabian Allen was picked up by PK at his base price but didn’t get to play too many games. In 2 matches, he has scored 6 runs and picked up 1 wicket.

Marco Jansen (INR 20 lakh)

Marco Jansen impressed the Mumbai Indians scout with his bowling in South Africa and got the better of Virat Kohli during one of India’s tours to South Africa. However, barring brief spells, he didn’t impress with his bowling.

The lanky South African played 2 games and picked up 2 wickets.

Rajat Patidar (INR 20 lakh)

RCB bought Patidar at his base price of INR 20 lakh and the right-handed batsman played 4 games and scored 71 runs for the Bangalore franchise.

Lukman Meriwala (INR 20 lakh)

Lukman Meriwala was bought at his base price by Delhi Capitals. He has played 1 match and picked up 1 wicket so far in the IPL.

Other notable mentions who didn’t get a game yet: Mohammed Azharuddeen (INR 20 lakh, RCB), Vaibhav Arora (INR 20 lakh, KKR), Venkatesh Iyer (INR 20 lakh, KKR), Arjun Tendulkar (INR 20 lakh, MI)
