IPL 2022: Expect New IPL Teams To Go For More Than ₹3000 Crores

Expect New IPL Teams To Go For More Than ₹3000 Crores

Ness Wadia, the co-owner of Punjab Kings, expects each team to be sold for not less than 3,000 cr., with an estimated price tag between 3000 and 3500 crores. As of now, it’s not confirmed and yet to be officially announced by the BCCI on October 25 after the team auction!

The value of each of the new teams should be 50 to 75% more than the base price of Rs 2000 cr. I think each team would go for a minimum of 3,000 to 3,500 cr,Wadia told TOI on Sunday.

Ness Wadia welcomed the addition of the two new IPL teams to the current 8 teams.

I’m excited about two new teams coming in because it will add a new dimension to the league. It will bring in a much wider base of viewership. And it will strengthen the IPL, which is already the greatest cricket league in the world and one of the greatest leagues in world sport. I believe that it will add a lot of opportunity to not only several other cricketers, but will bring in a lot of income to coaching staff and owners. It’ll be economically beneficial to all those who participate in the IPL. It will provide employment. More importantly, it will enhance the number of games in the IPL, so the fans will get a lot more cricket to watch,Wadia added.

The forthcoming IPL player auction in December 2021 will be a mega auction. With two new teams entering the league, it will be interesting to see how many players each franchise can retain now that they have more competition than ever before!

It (the mega player auction) should be fair and equitable, especially to the two new teams coming in. I’m looking forward to seeing what happens from that perspective,he further said.

It is predicted that there will be several teams striving to retain their top players, but the hot property in this year’s auction might just capture a new team.

We don’t know what the retention or right to match will be. We’ll see (things) based on that. I think there are several players which teams will be gunning for, said Wadia.

The BCCI’s decision to schedule two IPL matches on the final day of league play was a smart one, as it ensures that no team has an advantage in knowing what their opponent will do.

I think the BCCI’s objective has always been to have a balanced and equitable standing and positioning for each of the teams. It’s a good decision. I congratulate them for being so pro-active,Ness Wadia mentioned.

He further expressed sympathy for ‘Universe Boss’ Chris Gayle, who cited bubble fatigue as the reason why he left his bio-bubble in UAE to take a break before the upcoming T20 World Cup.

Next, while talking about KL Rahul‘s evolution into an all-format leading player for India, Wadia said, “KL’s evolution is definitely pleasing. Firstly from an India perspective. He’s a wonderful all-round player. I’m so happy for him and the Indian team. I’m sure that he’ll go from strength to strength.

On youngsters Arshdeep Singh and Ravi Bishnoi showing tremendous promise, Wadia said, “I think that India has a wonderful bunch of players. If India were to play with two cricket teams, we’d still be in the top five in the world. That’s the kind of talent we have.
