The Indian Premier League has been one of those tournaments in the world where records are broken, every now and then. While every player wants to be in the scheme of things and break maximum records for his team, a list he would certainly not want to be a part of is getting out on a duck. But it is a mere coincidence that there are four players who are jointly in top position with 13 ducks each. Unlucky enough?
Here is a list of the top five batsmen who are unlucky enough to score the most number of ducks in IPL history-
1. Harbhajan Singh
Famously known as the ‘Turbanator’, the senior Indian off-spinner has done the tricks quite a lot of times with the ball in his hand. The right-hander has also played some very crucial cameos with the bat and made his team win under pressure situations.
However, the bowling maestro also jointly holds the record for the most number of ducks in IPL history with 13 ducks in 90 innings that he has played.
Interestingly, Harbhajan Singh was the first batsman to reach the 13 ducks figure and was later joined by other batsmen featured on the list.
2. Parthiv Patel
Former Indian wicketkeeper Parthiv Patel had an eventful run in the IPL. The left-handed star played 137 innings for five different franchises.
Before hanging his boots from all forms of cricket in 2020, Parthiv Patel scored 2848 runs that included a total of 13 fifties.
However, he also had seen the field off without making any contribution to the team’s score 13 times in his IPL career.
3. Rohit Sharma
The Apple of the eye of Mumbaikars, Rohit Sharma is a name that cricket lovers across the oceans know. He has given his team dream starts a number of times. An amazing puller of the ball, Rohit Sharma is also one of the most successful captains of IPL. He has scored more than 5400 runs in 202 innings in his IPL career.
But Rohit Sharma is also one of the batsmen with the most number of ducks in the tournament. He jointly owns the record with the top 2 by losing his wicket on a duck on 13 occasions in his IPL career.
4. Ajinkya Rahane
Someone who likes to follow the cricketing copybook style, Ajinkya Rahane is a surprising name to be on the list. Rahane has been a part of IPL since its inception. Since then, Rahane has scored 3941 runs in 141 innings that he has played. Rahane is also the 11th highest run-scorer in IPL.
Ajinkya Rahane has been out for a duck 13 times in his IPL career. A batsman of such composure, he is the most surprising entry on the list.
5. Piyush Chawla
Apart from being the third-highest wicket-taker in the tournament, Piyush Chawla also has a decent batting record and has made some very important runs batting down the order. Out of the 164 matches that he has played, Chawla got a chance to face the strike in 81 innings.
Apart from scoring over 500 runs with a strike rate of over 100, Piyush Chawla holds the record of being dismissed for a duck on 12 occasions in his IPL career.
Although every player plays for his team and never cares about records, there are certain records no player would like to be a part of. And this, folks, are definitely one of them!
