Karthik was born on June 1st, 1985, in Tamil Nadu, India. At the moment, he is the vice-captain of the Kolkata Knight Riders. His debut for the national team was in 2004. Karthik made his first test century versus Bangladesh and was the Indian best scorer in their Test England tour.
However, in September 2007, he was pulled out from the Test squad due to unfitness. Since then, he has made occasional international appearances, although he still scores well at home. Dinesh holds the record of the highest number of catches reaped as a wicket-keeper in the IPL.
Karthik made his under-14 debut in early 1999. He then got a promotion to the Under 19 in the 2000/2001 period. In late 2002, Dinesh made his first-class debut versus Baroda as a wicket-keeper. Dinesh batted in 5 round-robin games and made 179 runs averaging 35.80.
He also had the highest score of 88, not out versus Uttar Pradesh in his 2nd match. However, after this match, he was out of form and did not pass 20 again during that season. He got 11 catches, but he was out of the season’s final games due to wicket-keeping mistakes.
He was picked and played in the Under-19 for the South zone in the zonal Duleep Trophy selection. He displayed splendid performance in the second zonal season, scoring 180 runs at 60.00 with 3 half-centuries.
In 2008 Karthik played IPL as a wicket-keeper for Delhi Daredevils, scoring 145 runs at 24.16 with a strike rate of 135.51. His top score was unbeaten 56 to steer Delhi in a 5 wicket win in the group match versus the Mumbai Indians. In addition, he played IPL in 2009 in South Africa in each of Delhi’s 15 games. His scores were 288 runs at 36.00, passing 40 on three occasions and making17 dismissals.
In March 2021 T201 and ODI series, India vs. England, he was part of the commentary team. He made his première behind the mic for the official broadcasters of the England and Wales cricket board. On March 12th, 2021, he was announced by Sky Sports that he would be part of the commentary team for the inaugural season of the hundred. He was also part of the commentary team during the England -Sri Lanka T20I and ODI series held in July 2021.
