The franchise, DC, are just one win away from sealing a play-offs berth in the IPL 2021. If they do that, it’ll be the 3rd season running Ricky Ponting’s coached franchise where they would make it to finals.
Earlier known as Delhi Daredevils, the franchise has been pushing it real hard & improving rapidly to reach the maiden IPL final season, eventually going down to MIs in the ongoing summit clash.
The team ascended new heights under the leadership of player Shreyas Iyer. But they were unable to achieve their full potential this season, as he was ruled out in April due to an injury on his left shoulder which would keep him sidelined throughout May.
The wicket-keeper batsman, Rishabh Pant took over the captaincy from Shreyas’s absence in a moment of crisis and led the team to secure top position before the league was postponed due to devastating second wave Covid-19 this year.
With the start of the IPL league in the UAE allows Iyer to get back into the team after regaining fitness. Though the franchise decided to continue with Pant’s captaincy for the rest of season and performances have been just as good. The match was a close one with the scores tied at 1-1 after extra innings. But in the end, Delhi lost to Kolkata Knight Riders and will have to wait longer than expected before they can book their place for play offs!
Breaking The Sehwag’s Record!
Captain Pant has scored 39 against Kolkata Knight Riders, breaking the long-standing record of former DC captain and Team India legend Virender Sehwag!
For long, Sehwag had been the highest run-getter for this franchise, with 2382 runs in 85 innings. Pant went past him last week and now leads with 2390 runs in just 75 innings! He’s also registered a century as well as 14 fifties while playing here so far while Sehwag, during his stay at DC, hit 17 fifties and a century.
Shreyas Iyer is in the 3rd position currently with 2291 runs in 82 innings for the franchise but it’s Shikhar Dhawan as he has been playing some outstanding innings ever since joining. He is currently on the 4th spot, with 1933 runs for the franchise in just 58 innings at a whopping average of 40.27.
The DC team management is hopeful that the triumvirate of Dhawan, Iyer and Pant can fire on all cylinders in order to guide their franchise towards a maiden IPL title.
