1. Royal Challengers Bangalore:
On 23 April 2013, Gayle storm struck minnows Pune Warriors India (PWI) at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru. The West Indian bludgeoned his way to 175 not out, the highest individual total in IPL to date. Riding high on Chris Gayle’s superlative performance and 30 plus scores from AB and Dilshan, RCB raced to a colossal total of 263/5 in the allotted 20 overs. In response, PWI could manage just 133 runs, conceding the match by a healthy margin of 130 runs.
2. Royal Challengers Bangalore:
The record for the top two team totals rests with RCB, which isn’t bad for a team that’s yet to win an IPL title. It was in IPL 2016, Virat and AB joined forces to bulldoze the Gujarat Lions and put 249 runs on the board at their home ground, M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru. Both hit superb centuries and stitched a record 229-run partnership for the 2nd wicket, the 2nd highest in IPL ever. RCB romped home in style, as GL failed to put up a fight and fizzled out at 104.
3. Chennai Super Kings:
CSK also has its share of big hitters and massive team totals. Against Rajasthan Royals, the CSK batting lineup came good to pile up 246 runs, the then-highest total for a team in IPL. Murali Vijay was the chief contributor with a maiden century (127) while Morkel (62) and Hayden (34) also chipped in. Responding to the total, RR started well, thanks to a stroke-filled innings from Naman Ojha (94). Shane Watson played a 60 run knock to take the score to 223/5.
4. Kolkata Knight Riders:
In a high scoring encounter against Punjab Kings, the then Kings XI Punjab, Kolkata Knight Riders went on to amass 245/6 while batting first. Chris Lynn (27) and Sunil Narine (75) provided a fine start for the likes of Andre Russell (31) and Dinesh Karthik (50) to speed up the scoring. Kings XI Punjab was in the hunt initially but after losing a few quick wickets, the chase fell apart.
5. Chennai Super Kings:
CSK batsman took the Kings XI Punjab to the cleaners with some prolific power-hitting to put 240/5 on the board in the inaugural IPL edition at Mohali. Michael Hussey hit a swashbuckling century (116 not out) while Suresh Raina (32) and Badrinath (31 not out) also contributed well. Kings XI Punjab, in reply, fought but the total proved to be just too big. CSK won the game by 33 runs.
