Upcoming tour of Australia to West Indies: Squads, Fixtures, and Venues

The upcoming Australia Tour of West Indies 2021 consists of three ODIs and five T20Is to be played from July 9th to July 24th, 2021 in St Lucia and Barbados. International cricket in the time of Covid-19 has to cater to many additional challenges for the players who have to follow strict safety protocols while playing overseas. The Covid19 pandemic in its second year has particularly impacted those players who participate in international events and have to spend lengthy periods in bio-secure hubs, where freedom of movement is restricted, and hard quarantine measures are in place.

Australian tour of the West Indies is a great chance for the Australian squad to prove their mettle on the Caribbean soil and make a case for the World Cup. Players selected for the tour deserve the opportunity offered to them with the inclusion of Wes Agar, Ben McDermott, Dan Christian, and Ashton Turner into the squad.

Players like Alex Carey, Josh Hazlewood, Moises Henriques, Mitchell Starc, and Mitchell Swepson who have missed the recent tour of New Zealand have been included in the white ball squad. While Ben McDermott is a proven middle-order batsman, Ashton has been performing exceedingly well on the international stage in the middle order with deep knowledge of the game and experience. But Australia will miss the services of Steve Smith who is down with an injury, David Warner, Pat Cummins, Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, and Jhye Richardson. These players pulled out of the series due to various reasons.

The above players will bring depth to the Australian squad with their caliber and experience and it is a positive sign for the team. The team is looking forward to a competitive series against the West Indies, the defending T20 World Cup champions. The West Indies team, on the other hand, will like to gain the much-needed momentum and consistency by challenging the Aussies team ahead of the T20 World Cup, likely to be held in the UAE.

The Australian cricket board is doing everything possible to support the players and staff members through the additional demands placed upon them by hubs and quarantine. The Australian squad has an uphill task to achieve while playing against West Indies on their home soil and inclement weather.
