The much-awaited Team India’s limited-overs series tour of Sri Lanka is going to be an epic cricketing tournament testing the bench strength of its young squad that has most of the players under 30. It would be interesting to see what batting and bowling strategies Rahul Dravid and Shikhar Dhawan apply to win the series. In the absence of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan will lead the batting unit as he had a remarkable IPL 2021, where he claimed the orange cap. The left-hander hard hitter scored 380 runs from eight matches at a brilliant average of 54.28. Since Shikhar is going to be the most experienced player in the Indian cricket squad, he is an ideal choice to captain the team as well.
Technically, the Indian cricket squad stands a good chance of beating Sri Lanka on their home ground as most of the Indian players are in good form after the IPL tournament held in UAE. The middle-order selection of Indian batsmen should be exciting given the variety of available options. Few players who have made an impressive debut against England are included in the Indian squad to prove their worth once again.
Suryakumar Yadav, who played well against England should see himself batting at number three. Sanju Samson, Manish Pandey, Hardik Pandya, Nitish Rana, and Ishan Kishan are the other probable players to qualify for the fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh spot. Hardik Pandya should be given a chance to bat at number six and allowed to bowl a few overs to ease the burden of Krunal’s bowling. Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan will be the preferred choice for wicketkeepers and they will get an opportunity to prove their talent in the international arena. Sanju Samson had a lucrative IPL season scoring plenty of runs for Rajasthan Royals including a sensational hundred. The Sri Lanka tour would give both a chance to consolidate their place in the Indian team.
Indian team has selected a variety of spinners in the squad given the subcontinent weather conditions. Leading the pack are Yuzvendra Chahal, Krishnappa Gowtham and Krunal Pandya, Kuldeep Yadav, Rahul Chahar, and Varun Chakravarthy. While Yuzvendra Chahal will be the leading spinner, Krunal will have to back up as the second alternative spin bowler to curtail Sri Lankan batsmen.
The pacers in the Indian team include Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Deepak Chahar, Navdeep Saini, and Chetan Sakariya. Chetan Sakariya showed impressive performance in IPL 2021 and has performed really well in the domestic T20 tournaments. He may not be risked directly in the ODI format in the initial matches and a more stable bowler Navdeep Saini should get a chance.
