Where does IPL 2021 stand before Phase 2 starts?

The IPL 2021 was going smoothly under the biosecure bubble until the infection decided to intervene. Just when the 14th edition neared the halfway mark, a few players tested positive for COVID, which led to the event’s suspension on May 29 2021. Upon much deliberation, the BCCI has rescheduled the remaining 31 of 60 games in September-October 2021 in the UAE.

The Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2021 is expected to get underway from August 28 and last till September 19, 2021. The BCCI intends to kick off the IPL phase-2 by mid-September. But, the clashing dates with CPL are among the many reasons holding BCCI from announcing the dates for the second leg of IPL. Reportedly, the Indian board has requested Cricket West Indies to advance the date by at least a week. Also, talks with other boards are on to ensure maximum player participation.

Though the dates are yet to be finalized, insiders tell us that IPL is likely to resume on Sunday, September 19 and conclude on October 10, 2021. That’s good news for everyone, from cricket fans and fantasy leaguers to punters keen on betting in IPL. With the IPL all set to resume, FantasyBet takes a closer, more comprehensive look at where the event stands as of now.

Delhi Daredevils lead the points table, thanks to an excellent all-around performance. DC has won six of their eight games to earn 12 points, the highest for any team. Making an IPL prediction is challenging, as it’s an intensely competitive event. But DD looks heading towards their maiden IPL title until something dramatic happens.

Chennai Super Kings are close on the heels of DD on the points table. Not many gave MSD led CSK a chance after a nightmarish 2020 season. But the team has played well to win five of their seven outings to earn 10 points. If CSK manages to maintain the rhythm, it could end up winning its fourth IPL title.

Royal Challengers Bangalore started with a bang but lost rhythm as the event progressed, slipping to the third position. On the other hand, Mumbai Indians started badly but made a comeback of sorts to climb up the leaderboard in the last few games. The five-time champions could be a serious contender for the title.
