COVID 19 was harsh on everyone. Even Indian Premier League couldn’t stay immune to it. The 2021 season was called off mid-way when the biosecure bubble was breached and a few players tested positive. With the remaining part of the edition reportedly resuming in September and October in the UAE, the perennial debate is back again – who will clinch the coveted title.
Only 29 of the scheduled 60 games were played when IPL 2021 was called off on 29 May 2021. Whatever cricket was staged, it was enough to indicate a few serious title contenders, Delhi Capitals for one. The Delhi-based franchise was a cut above the rest, winning six of their eight games and leading the league table with 12 points. However, there’s enough cricket left in the tournament for teams like Mumbai Indians to put their act together and move up the ladder.
In a competitive event like IPL, it’s hard to predict the title winner. But let’s attempt it. Read on to know which four teams would make it to the playoffs and go ahead to clinch the title.
IPL 2021 Points Table:
|Rank||Team||Played||Won/Lost||Points||Net Run Rate|
|2.||Chennai Super Kings||07||05/02||10||+1.263|
|3.||Royal Challengers Bangalore||07||05/02||10||-0.171|
|7.||Kolkata Knight Riders||07||02/05||04||-0.494|
1. Delhi Capitals:
The IPL 2020 runner-up, Delhi Capitals has been the team to beat thus far. Everything is working in DC’s favour. The batting is clicking with Shikhar and Prithvi enjoying an amazing run of form at top of the order. In the middle order, skipper Rishabh Pant has also chipped in for the team’s cause. Bowlers, especially the young Avesh Khan and experienced Ashwin, have also impressed. If only DC could maintain the rhythm, they are a serious title contender.
2. Chennai Super Kings:
Considering the nightmarish 2020 season, not many were expecting Chennai Super Kings to dominate the proceedings in the ongoing edition. The most experienced team put together some inspiring performances to win five out of seven games and finish second on the points table.
3. Mumbai Indians:
Even though Mumbai Indians didn’t start too well, they are too good to be written off. It’s the most successful team in IPL ever with a record five titles already in its kitty. The Mumbai based franchisee can rise to the occasion with the kind of talent and experience it has.
4. Royal Challengers Bangalore:
RCB started the season with a bang, winning their opening encounters convincingly. However, as the tournament progressed, the team started to waiver a bit. It’s hard to rule RCB out just yet but they have to put up an improved performance, especially in the bowling department.
