Wimbledon 2021: Draw, time, seeds and all you need to know

Wimbledon 2021 will have two former champions in the men’s singles draw this year. But, as much as we would like both to be winners, one one of them will hold the coveted trophy, following the withdrawal of Rafael Nadal from both Wimbledon.

Roger Federer is likely to be seeded 7th this year with the rankings freezing over the pandemic period but few would give him the tag of a challenger to Novak Djokovic despite his mastery on grass. Andy Murray may get a wildcard route for the men’s singles draw following limited action since his hip surgery. He is currently out of the top 100 ranked players in the world and anything beyond round two would be a good run as things stand. What makes Djokovic a favourite is his record wins on grass.

In women’s singles, the draw is likely to be more open following world No.2 Naomi Osaka’s withdrawal from the tournament because of mental health concerns. World No.1 Ashleigh Barty’s game suits the grass surface but she is battling a hip injury and is easing her way into action. World No.3 Simona Halep is a good player on grass but she is also battling a calf injury currently. Therefore, the draw is set to be an open one and it will be interesting to see who plays who.

Here’s every information you need to know about the Wimbledon 2021 draw and seedings:

Draw date: June 25, 2021

Draw time: 14.30 IST

A total of 256 players are in action with 16 men and women each progressing through if they manage to win three matches in a row.

Previously, Wimbledon would use their formula to seed players based on a combination of world rankings and previous performances on grass courts including Wimbledon. But from 2021, it has been confirmed that men’s and women’s singles seeding will be according to the world rankings till June 21. However, the All England Club added that they will reserve the right to make changes where the Professional Tennis Committee feels a change is necessary to produce a balanced draw.
